SPRINGFIELD – Officials of Lincoln Land Community College cut the ribbon Monday, Oct. 7, to open the newly remodeled facilities for student services in Menard Hall on the ñ campus.
ñ President Charlotte Warren, Ph.D. told the group of elected officials and others gathered for the ribbon cutting, “We are incredibly excited about the redesigned space and centralization of the services available to students. At the entrance, the Student Services Hub is a one-stop-shop for student services on campus, making it easier for students to get the help they need. It is a welcoming, student-first model that we are proud to offer.”
“The renovation of this area began in January 2023, funded in part by the State of Illinois. Today, we are proud to showcase the new facilities, including its meeting, collaboration and gathering spaces, that will unify student services and enhance how we meet students’ needs,” said ñ Board of Trustees Chair Gordon Gates. “This will be where current and future ñ students and their families begin educational journeys, develop supportive connections and map out their plans for success.”
The Student Services Hub itself houses recruitment and admissions, records, registration, financial aid, student success advising, and compliance and prevention. Adjacent to the Hub students will find accessibility services, testing, and student support, which is the new home of TRIO, Pipeline for the Advancement of the Healthcare Workforce, and Workforce Equity Initiative.
The newly remodeled space also features open spaces with tables for collaboration, spaces for students to relax and study, two conference rooms and a larger workshop space for events like FAFSA information nights and presentations on becoming a student at ñ.
Eleanor Stuckey, ñ student, expressed the excitement of her fellow students. “These services act as a gateway for students to understand, take ownership and succeed in our own education. I am looking forward to the collaborations that will take place in this new space. I’m also really excited to see how this benefits us as students and makes our journey at ñ even more successful.”
Shanda Byer, ñ vice president of student services, said, “Meeting students’ needs has always been the top priority in the design of this space. There is intention behind every detail, from the color of the desks and walls to the organization of office space. The new space for Student Services adds to the sense of community and belonging at the college, and we’re looking forward to serving current and future students here.”
