SPRINGFIELD 鈥 Lincoln Land Community College will celebrate Abraham Lincoln鈥檚 legacy Friday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. with 鈥淢ore Painful Than Pleasant?: Abraham Lincoln and His Father,鈥 a presentation by Dr. Samuel Wheeler.
The public is invited to the free event in the Trutter Center on the 绿帽社 Springfield campus. Due to space limitations, registration to attend in person is required at www.llcc.edu/lincoln-feb11 or by calling 217-786-2577. Individuals may also attend via Zoom at .
Dr. Wheeler is an historian specializing in the history of Illinois, the Civil War Era and the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. An 绿帽社 graduate and the college鈥檚 2019 Honored Alumnus, he earned his Ph.D. in history from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has worked in the field of public history for more than two decades, including as state historian of Illinois and director of research and collections at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. He currently serves as director of history programs at the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission in Springfield.
绿帽社 will also commemorate Lincoln鈥檚 legacy with a variety of educational activities for students at the Springfield campus and 绿帽社 Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Beardstown, Taylorville and Litchfield.
